The opening of the school in 1962 marked the beginnings of School of Allied Medical Professions (SAMP) Library. Books, periodicals, and other library materials were housed in a room within the area allocated by the National Orthopedic Hospital in Banawe, Quezon City. The library collection which consisted of some books and journals, was donated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF reprint materials.

On February 17, 1965, the head of the Department of Occupational Therapy, Mrs. Charlotte A. Floro requested for the assistance of Miss Marina G. Dayrit, University Librarian, U.P. Main Library, in organizing the Library collection. Miss Clarisa G. Dimalanta, Medical Librarian, was designated to organize and coordinate the services of SAMP Library. The clerk was given some practical training in the Medical Library.

The book fund allotment of the library was based on the enrollment. The SAMP students paid a library fee of P60.00 per semester or P120.00 a year. Only 75% of 90% of the total income from library fees collected was allocated as book funds, other expenses were borne by the school. Subject coverage of the collection were: occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech pathology, rehabilitation medicine and some basic medical services. The collection of SAMP grew slowly from donations from UNICEF, WHO, and the few books bought from its merger book fund allotment. Some titles were added in 1970 through the Colombo Plan.

During the Academic Year 1969-1970, the Physical Therapy Department was transferred to UP-PGH Medical Center Compound. For purposes of better coordination Ms. Dayrit, University Librarian ordered the merger of the SAMP collection with the Medical Library collections on September 26, 1973. Likewise, the item of Library Aide in the SAMP budget was transferred to the University Library budget in line with centralized library administration. At this time the SAMP library had a collection of 420 volumes of books and 12 serial titles.

The library started to receive books from Russel D.N. Dean Memorial Library. The merger of the SAMP collection with the Medical Library collection that year resulted in the collections complimenting and supplementing each other. While personnel and other services, i.e. acquisition, cataloging, reader’s services were also integrated with that of the Medical library, the SAMP library was considered a unit library hence had a separate budget for books and periodical subscriptions.

This set up lasted until 1990 when, Mrs. Charlotte A. Floro, formerly Dean of the College of Allied Medical Professions requested the reorganization and transfer of the entire CAMP library collection from the Medical library to the CAMP building in Padre Faura Street. A room on the ground floor with an area of 51.65 sq. m. was renovated and furnished with bookshelves, reading tables, chairs, librarian desk and chair, charging desk and two air-conditioning units. The project was funded by the U.P. SAMP Foundation, Inc. This was made possible through the efforts of its President and former Dean of the College, Dr. Guillermo R. Damian. The new CAMP library was inaugurated on November 29, 1990, with Mrs. Adawey F. Racal as College Librarian-in-charge.

Computerized cataloging was introduced in 1994. Thus, the book collection of CAMP library was converted into machine-readable catalog; it became accessible on-line through the public access catalog at the University Library Manila. The library developed and maintained local computerized databases on index to undergraduate thesis and vertical files.

In October 1996 library collection reached a total of 3,363 volumes of books, bound periodicals, undergraduate thesis, pamphlets, vertical files, and audiovisual materials. The periodical collection consisted of 43 titles in which 26 titles were current subscriptions. Growth of library collection was slow. Collection development was based on a standard core list and as of 1995, the library has acquired 90% of the requirements of the standard core list both for books and periodicals titles.

On February 1997, Mrs. Rosa I. De Leon, formerly from the College of Arts and Sciences Library, was appointed as College Librarian-in-charge of the College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP) Library. She replaced Mrs. Adawey F. Racal, who was then appointed as the College Librarian-in-charge of the College of Pharmacy Library.

The renovation of the CAMP library sometime in 1999 resulted to a much wider space 164.11 sq. m. floor area enough to accommodate students, faculty and staff.

On July 1, 2003, Mrs. Elena D. Artuz, formerly Librarian-in-charge of the College of Dentistry Library was reassigned to the CAMP Library. When Mrs. Artuz was retired in 2007, Ms. Marybel P. Caasi, librarian from the CAS Library transferred at the CAMP Library to replace her as College Librarian in Charge.

Ms. Dhomilyn C. Hernandez then assumed the role of College Librarian in Charge when Ms. Caasi transferred to College of Nursing Library. At present, Ms. Hernandez and Ms. Bulig facilitate CAMP library services.
